I’ve owned Pulp City models for a while, a bit before the kickstarter project for the most recent edition of the game. A pretty varied lot, gotten through the used market, but with a strong concentration of primates from the A.R.C. (Ape Revolution Committee) faction.
When I initially planned to paint them, I knew I wanted to stay pretty close to the official schemes, which I like a lot, but I was stuck at where to go with the bases. The studio models use all different basing schemes, and while it makes the individual minis pop, it lacks a certain team visual. At that time, nothing in pre-made resin caught my eye, and I had no idea for scratch building my own, so they ended up put aside in a closet while I jumped on other projects.
J’ai des modèles de Pulp City depuis déjà un bon moment, avant même le kickstarter pour la plus récente édition il y a quelques années. Des modèles plutôt variés venant d’un achat à rabais, mais avec une forte concentration de primate venant de la faction A.R.C. (Ape Revolution Committee).
Quand j’ai voulu les peindre à l’origine, j’avais déjà décidé de rester proche des schémas officiels, qui me plaisent assez, mais j’avais bloqué sur les bases. Les modèles du studio ont tous des bases différentes, et bien que ça aide à les faire ressortir individuellement, ça brise un peu la notion d’équipe. Je n’avais à l’époque rien trouvé qui me plaisait dans le déjà fait en résine, ni d’idée à fabriquer maison. Je les avais donc remisé pour travailler sur autre chose.
Voici une billet surprise pour faire suite à celui sur le projet Kickstarter d’ogre en 10mm par Black Gate Miniatures publié il y a quelques semaines. Suite à la publication, les gars derrière le projet m’ont contacté et offert de m’envoyer quelques figurines échantillons. Le délai était court avant la fin, surtout en comprenant la poste entre le UK et le canada, mais pourquoi pas !

Last year, I discovered the game Guild Ball by Steamforged Games, and since then, it has become the center of my gaming time. I’m slowly painting the models, pushing them a bit more than I would usually do for play pieces, as the game requires only 6.
Here is my Butcher Guild starter. I chose to use only a little bit of red compared to the official scheme, only painting a single accessory in that colour per model, and blood effect, of course!
L’an dernier, j’ai découvert le jeu Guild Ball, par Steamforged Games, et depuis, c’est devenu le centre de mon temps de jeu. Je travaille lentement sur mes figurines, en les poussant pas mal pour des modèles de jeu, car il n’en faut que 6 pour jouer.
Voici mon starter pour la guilde des bouchers. J’ai décidé de n’utiliser que très peu de rouge comparativement au schéma officiel, en ne mettant qu’un accessoire de cette couleur par modèle, et un peu de sang, bien sûr.
Last March, I had the pleasure of painting the M4 buildings demo kit for the project MC Studio launched on Kickstarter. The laser cut cardboard buildings are well designed, surprisingly sturdy, and fun to paint. Once the project was over (successfully, I must add), I discussed with the laser man about future project and the first thing that came was doing a tutorial for the painting of the official scheme. Life sadly took its toll on my free time in the following months, but finally, here is that tutorial.
So here are the steps to paint the M4 buildings like the ones in the initial demo kit.
Small note: this guide is only an example, and you can paint those a multitude of other ways, like using spraycans or large brushes, using different colour schemes, or add a lot more weathering. The building are yours.
